Building Control Officer

- Hourly rate: £65-£75 per hour Umbrella. Inside IR35.
- Length of role: Initial 7 months
Oldham Council is seeking a Building Control Officer to join our team. This role is crucial for maintaining safety and compliance within the construction sector. The successful candidate will have a strong background in building control services and a deep understanding of Building Control legislation.
Day-to-Day of the Role:
- Work within a building control service, handling a wide range of building control applications.
- Apply Building Control legislation to complex projects, including those submitted under the LABC Partnership Scheme.
- Interpret plans and advise applicants on regulatory issues.
- Conduct pre-application meetings and write clear, concise reports and correspondence.
- Engage in fire safety inspections and audits.
- Manage enforcement actions for breaches of Building Regulations, including conducting PACE interviews.
- Participate in an out-of-hours standby rota for dealing with referrals of potentially dangerous structures.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Degree or equivalent in a Construction-related discipline.
- Full membership or working towards membership of RICS, ABE, CIOB, or equivalent.
- Experience in building control services and applying legislation to complex projects.
- Developed communication skills with the ability to negotiate and mediate with professionals, clients, and the public.
- Ability to offer reasoned advice and recommend appropriate solutions during the construction site inspection process.
- Must hold a current driving licence and have a vehicle available for use at all times.
- Physically capable of climbing scaffolds and ladders.
