Design Manager - Building Projects

Location: Hertfordshire
Salary: Up to 70k

About the Role

We are seeking a Design Manager to lead the on-site design process at RIBA Stage 4 & 5 (Technical Design and Construction). You will manage design teams, coordinate subcontractors, and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate design teams, subcontractors, and consultants
• Monitor design progress against project programmes and KPIs
• Establish and manage project data, workflows, and Common Data Environment (CDE)
• Prepare Design Management Plans (DMP) and BIM Execution Plans (BEP) and monitor compliance
• Manage post-contract design changes, risks, and approvals
• Review and approve design documentation, drawings, reports, and certificates
• Chair design workshops and record outcomes
• Ensure coordination, buildability, and compliance of all designs
• Assist with technical submissions, Planning Conditions, and Building Regulations
• Archive final design documentation and produce lessons learnt reports

Ideal Candidate

• Strong experience managing building project designs, ideally in technical fit-out or construction environments
• Confident leading design teams and liaising with subcontractors
• Excellent project coordination, organisational, and communication skills
• Knowledge of RIBA stages, CDM, BREEAM, and design risk management
