M&E Design Manager
Location: South East London/Kent
Salary: Up to 100,000 + Package

Company Overview
We are representing a well-established M&E contractor based in South East London, operating across the commercial, education and healthcare sectors. With an annual turnover of approximately 50 million, the business continues to expand and is now seeking an experienced M&E Design Manager to strengthen and lead its in-house design function.

This is a senior strategic role offering the opportunity to influence technical standards, mentor an established design team and support the continued growth of the business.

Role Overview
The successful candidate will oversee design delivery across multiple live and pre-construction projects, ensuring technical compliance, innovation, coordination and consistency from early concept through to project completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the in-house M&E design team across all project stages

  • Develop design strategies in line with project requirements, client needs and sustainability targets

  • Undertake technical reviews to ensure accuracy, compliance and best practice

  • Work closely with project managers, architects, consultants and clients to provide coordinated design solutions

  • Support professional development and performance management of design team members

  • Manage design timelines, budgets, workloads and resources

  • Stay informed of new technologies, regulations and industry advancements

  • Prepare and present design proposals, reports and project updates to internal teams and external stakeholders

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services Engineering or similar

  • Proven experience in a design management or senior engineering role within the M&E sector

  • Strong technical understanding of mechanical and electrical building services systems

  • Confident leading multidisciplinary design teams on live projects

  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills

  • Proficient with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit and calculation tools

  • Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills

  • Knowledge of relevant UK building regulations and industry standards

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Full UK driving licence
