About the Company

Our client is an established specialist contractor operating within the passive fire protection sector, delivering fire stopping, compartmentation and fire safety solutions across a diverse portfolio of projects.

With work spanning the UK, Ireland and Europe, the business provides specialist installation and maintenance services, including planned and reactive contracts. Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit an experienced Passive Fire Estimator to strengthen their commercial team.

The ideal candidate will be based in the North West and able to work from the company's St Helens office. However, applications from exceptional candidates based further afield will also be considered.

The Role

As Passive Fire Estimator, you will be responsible for pricing tenders across fire stopping, compartmentation and planned and reactive maintenance contracts. You will play a key role in producing accurate, competitive estimates while ensuring all labour, materials, access requirements, plant and preliminaries are properly accounted for.

Working closely with suppliers, subcontractors, the Contracts Team and Quantity Surveyors, you will help ensure tenders are commercially sound and that successfully secured work is handed over to operations with a clear and comprehensive pricing breakdown.

Key Responsibilities

  • Price tenders for fire stopping, compartmentation and planned and reactive maintenance contracts across the UK, Ireland and Europe.

  • Review drawings, surveys, specifications and tender documentation to establish the full scope of works.

  • Complete accurate take-offs and quantify labour, materials and installation requirements.

  • Build up detailed rates covering labour, materials, plant, access equipment and preliminaries.

  • Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations to ensure competitive and accurate pricing.

  • Attend site visits, pre-tender meetings and client meetings where required.

  • Identify commercial risks, exclusions, scope gaps and potential opportunities within tender submissions.

  • Prepare clear, detailed and commercially robust tender submissions.

  • Ensure successful tenders are handed over effectively to the Contracts Team and Quantity Surveyors, supported by a well-documented pricing basis.

  • Review completed projects against original estimates alongside the QS team, identifying lessons learned and opportunities to improve future pricing.

  • Maintain accurate estimating records and manage multiple tender enquiries against deadlines.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have:

  • Proven estimating experience within the passive fire protection industry.

  • Strong technical knowledge of fire stopping and compartmentation systems.

  • Experience pricing passive fire protection packages and associated maintenance contracts.

  • Knowledge of intumescent systems and fire doors would be highly advantageous.

  • An understanding of third-party accreditation requirements, fire door standards and current fire safety legislation would be beneficial.

  • The ability to interpret construction drawings, surveys and specifications and produce accurate take-offs.

  • Strong commercial judgement and an understanding of construction costs.

  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage several enquiries simultaneously.

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and clear written communication.

  • Confidence communicating by telephone with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.

  • A proactive, methodical approach and the ability to work independently.

  • A full UK driving licence.

What's on Offer?

  • Salary of up to 60,000, depending on experience.

  • Opportunity to join an established specialist passive fire protection contractor.

  • A varied workload covering projects and maintenance contracts across the UK, Ireland and Europe.

  • A key role within the commercial team, with direct involvement in tendering and pricing strategy.

  • The opportunity to work closely with operational and commercial colleagues to improve estimating accuracy and project profitability.

  • St Helens office base, with flexibility to consider exceptional candidates outside the North West.
