Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Location: Devizes, Wiltshire
Salary: £40,000 £45,000 + Package

Alpinefox Recruitment is working with an established Wiltshire-based contractor looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor to support its growing workload across social housing, repairs, maintenance and small works.

This isn't a major-project QS position. We're looking for somebody who understands the commercial realities of responsive repairs, voids, planned maintenance and smaller-value works and, crucially, has experience working with the NHF Schedule of Rates.

You could already be working as a Quantity Surveyor or Assistant QS, or perhaps in an estimating/commercial role within social housing. What's most important is your knowledge of the sector and your ability to price and commercially manage works accurately.

Working closely with the wider operational and commercial team, you'll be involved across the lifecycle of housing maintenance and small works, including:

• Pricing works using the NHF Schedule of Rates
• Preparing estimates and quotations
• Reviewing specifications and scopes of work
• Managing variations and additional works
• Valuations and applications for payment
• Monitoring project costs and commercial performance
• Working with subcontractors, suppliers and operational teams
• Supporting the commercial delivery of responsive repairs, voids, planned maintenance and small works
• Ensuring works provide value while remaining commercially viable

The key requirement is straightforward: you'll need genuine experience working with NHF Schedule of Rates.

We're particularly interested in speaking with people who have worked within social housing repairs and maintenance, whether for a contractor, housing association or local authority.

You don't necessarily need to be the finished article. This could suit an experienced Assistant QS ready for greater responsibility or somebody with strong NHF/estimating experience looking to develop further commercially.

Ideally, you'll bring experience of:

• NHF Schedule of Rates
• Social housing / housing maintenance
• Responsive repairs, voids, planned works or small works
• Estimating and producing quotations
• Variations and commercial cost control
• Working with operational teams and subcontractors

You'll be joining a well-established local business where you'll have genuine exposure to the wider commercial operation rather than being one person in a large QS department.

The package includes a salary of £35,000 £45,000, depending on experience, with additional benefits and the opportunity for continued professional development.
