Mechanical Fitter

VGC Group are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Fitter to join our team on a major project in Leiston, Suffolk.

We are looking for an experienced and reliable Mechanical Fitter to inspect, maintain, and repair a wide range of heavy plant machinery. The ideal candidate will have strong diagnostic skills, hands-on technical experience, and the ability to work autonomously or as part of a maintenance team.

This role ensures machinery remains safe, compliant, and fully operational to support production and site efficiency.

Basic pay rate: £24.14 per hour PAYE
Shift- 12 days on, 2 days off. 12 hour days
Start Date: ASAP, subject to gaining vetting

Lodge pay is available for the successful candidate, if they meet the criteria.

Qualifications/experience:
Essential
- CSCS or JIB Tickets
- NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Fitter
- LOTO
- Strong diagnostic skills, hands-on technical experience, and the ability to work autonomously or as part of a maintenance team
- Ensure machinery remains safe, compliant, and fully operational to support production and site efficiency.
- Proven experience as a Heavy Plant Mechanic / Plant Fitter / Mobile Plant Technician
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and mechanical components
- NVQ Level 3 in Plant Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent qualification
- Ability to read technical manuals and engineering diagrams
- Experience with diagnostics tools and software
- Full UK driving licence

Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs on heavy plant machinery
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults
- Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and complete associated documentation
- Respond to breakdowns with efficient fault-finding and repair work
- Perform component replacements such as engines, transmissions, pumps, cylinders, pins, bushes and tracks
- Ensure all work is performed in line with manufacturer guidelines and company safety procedures
- Maintain accurate service records, job sheets, and inspection reports
- Support continuous improvement of maintenance processes
- Operate plant equipment for testing purposes (as qualified)
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, operators, and site management
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment

- Competent with IT for job reporting and diagnostics
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
