Location: Hybrid Working (Office attendance approximately once every four weeks, with site visits and stakeholder meetings as required)
Rate: 57-62 Hourly
Contract: 6-Month Interim Contract
Hours: 37 Hours Per Week

Sellick Partnership is delighted to be supporting a local authority client in the recruitment of a Senior Strategic Planning Officer to join their Planning Policy team on an interim basis.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced planning professional to play a pivotal role in the delivery of a major strategic site allocation, supporting the development of a significant new settlement within an emerging Local Plan. The position would suit an RTPI-qualified planner with experience in strategic planning, site promotion, plan-making, and the delivery of large-scale residential developments.

The Role

As the Senior Strategic Planning Officer, you will lead on the coordination and progression of a major strategic growth site, working closely with developers, landowners, infrastructure providers, planning colleagues, elected members, and other key stakeholders.

You will help ensure the successful delivery of a strategically important allocation, facilitating development and supporting the implementation of planning policy objectives through effective partnership working and project management.

Key Responsibilities of the Senior Strategic Planning Officer

• Lead and support the delivery of a major strategic housing allocation as part of an emerging Local Plan.
• Act as a key liaison between the Council, developers, consultants, landowners, and statutory consultees.
• Monitor site progress and identify opportunities to accelerate delivery and overcome barriers to implementation.
• Support the coordination of infrastructure, housing growth, and place-making initiatives associated with strategic development.
• Prepare reports, briefing notes, and recommendations for senior officers and elected members.
• Attend stakeholder meetings, workshops, and site visits as required.
• Provide professional planning advice relating to strategic sites, growth proposals, and development delivery.
• Contribute towards the successful implementation of planning policy and wider corporate growth objectives.

The Successful Senior Strategic Planning Officer Candidate Will Have

• A qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline.
• RTPI membership or eligibility for membership is highly desirable.
• Experience working within Planning Policy, Strategic Planning, Development Management, or a similar planning environment.
• Knowledge of the plan-making process and the delivery of strategic site allocations.
• Experience working on large-scale residential, mixed-use, or growth developments.
• Strong stakeholder management and partnership working skills.
• Excellent written communication skills, including report writing and presenting complex planning matters clearly.
• A sound understanding of the planning system, housing delivery, and strategic growth agendas within local government.
