Assistant Quantity Surveyor

An established North West design and build contractor specialising in commercial and industrial projects, retail and leisure, public sector works, refurbishment and specialist fit-out is looking to appoint an Assistant Quantity Surveyor / Graduate Quantity Surveyor to join its team on a major project in Deeside.

The business has extensive experience delivering complex fit-out and architectural packages, combining design, manufacture and construction across a range of sectors. Current works at Shotton Mill include a major architectural package incorporating drylining, ceilings, joinery, screeding, floor finishes, fire-rated panelling and doorsets.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Graduate Quantity Surveyor who has recently completed their qualification, or an Assistant Quantity Surveyor with 1-2 years' construction experience, to gain valuable hands-on experience working on a major CAT A & B fit-out project.

You will be based full time on site at Shotton Mill, Deeside, working closely with the commercial and project delivery teams and gaining exposure to the full commercial management of a live construction project.

The company is particularly interested in candidates based around Liverpool, Chester and the surrounding areas, who are within a reasonable commuting distance of the Deeside site.

• Assist with the commercial management of the project from procurement through to final account.

• Support the Senior Quantity Surveyor and wider commercial team.

• Assist with measuring works and preparing accurate quantities from drawings and specifications.

• Assist with the preparation and management of subcontract and supplier packages.

• Obtain and assess quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.

• Assist with procurement and commercial negotiations.

• Monitor project costs and expenditure against agreed budgets.

• Assist with CVR reporting and cost/value reconciliation.

• Support the preparation of valuations and payment applications.

• Review subcontractor applications, valuations and invoices.

• Assist with the preparation and management of variations and change control.

• Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation.

• Assist with contract administration and commercial correspondence.

• Identify potential commercial risks and opportunities.

• Liaise with project managers, site teams, subcontractors, suppliers and other stakeholders.

• Assist with monthly reporting and forecasting.

• Gain exposure to final accounts and project close-out.

• Ensure commercial procedures and company processes are followed.

The successful candidate will ideally be:

• A Graduate Quantity Surveyor who has recently completed a relevant degree, or

• An Assistant Quantity Surveyor with 1-2 years' construction experience.

• Ideally experienced within fit-out, refurbishment, interiors or general building.

• Based in or around Liverpool, Chester, Deeside or the surrounding areas.

• Comfortable working full time on a live construction site.

• Commercially aware with a strong interest in developing a career in Quantity Surveying.

• Confident working with Excel and standard Microsoft Office packages.

• Numerate, analytical and highly organised.

• A good communicator with the ability to work with site teams, subcontractors and senior commercial staff.

• Keen to learn and develop within a fast-paced construction environment.

• A relevant Quantity Surveying / Construction Management degree or equivalent qualification is required.

This is a strong opportunity for a graduate or early-career Quantity Surveyor to gain major project experience within a specialist CAT A & B fit-out environment.

The successful candidate will be working on one of the major construction projects currently underway in North Wales, with exposure to multiple architectural and fit-out packages and the opportunity to develop their commercial knowledge across a live project.
