Job Description

Our client is a leading UK civil engineering and infrastructure contractor with an established reputation for delivering complex infrastructure, groundworks and civil engineering projects across a range of sectors. Due to continued growth and an expanding order book, they are seeking an experienced Business Development Director to drive their work-winning strategy and secure major projects nationwide.

This is a high-profile leadership role for an individual who can combine business development expertise with a strong understanding of pre-construction, estimating and project delivery.



The Role

As Business Development Director, you will take ownership of the complete work-winning process, leading opportunities from initial client engagement through to successful contract award and handover to delivery teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the full cradle-to-grave work-winning cycle.
  • Building and maintaining strategic client relationships.
  • Identifying and securing new business opportunities across civil engineering and infrastructure markets.
  • Leading bid management and tender submissions.
  • Managing and delivering ECI (Early Contractor Involvement) and PCSA (Pre-Construction Services Agreement) engagements.
  • Working closely with estimating, commercial and operational teams to develop winning solutions.
  • Ensuring a seamless transition from pre-construction to project delivery.
  • Supporting the company's long-term growth and market expansion plans.


About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • A proven track record in business development, tendering, estimating and/or project delivery within civil engineering.
  • Experience managing the full bid and work-winning lifecycle.
  • Strong technical knowledge of civil engineering, groundworks and infrastructure projects.
  • Experience leading ECI and PCSA engagements.
  • Excellent client-facing, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • A strong commercial mindset with the ability to identify and convert opportunities into secured work.
  • Experience working within both self-delivery contractors and Tier 1 organisations would be highly advantageous.
