Assistant Facilities Manager
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: 30,000 - 32,000 + Shift Allowance

The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Facilities Manager to join a busy facilities team supporting a portfolio of sites across Newcastle.
Working closely with the Facilities Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring buildings are safe, secure, compliant, and maintained to a high standard. You will support the delivery of both planned and reactive maintenance activities, supervise contractors, assist with building operations, and contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of multiple sites.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day management of facilities operations across multiple sites.
- Carry out regular facilities inspections and implement remedial actions where required.
- Monitor and operate building services including heating, ventilation, and plumbing systems.
- Coordinate reactive and planned preventative maintenance activities.
- Open, close, and secure buildings in accordance with operational requirements.
- Supervise contractors and ensure work is completed safely and to agreed standards.
- Undertake minor maintenance and repair tasks as required.
- Support porterage, room set-ups, and general site operations.
- Maintain accurate records, compliance documentation, and inspection reports.
- Assist with health and safety monitoring, risk assessments, and site security procedures.
- Respond to facilities-related issues and emergencies promptly and effectively.
- Identify opportunities for ongoing improvements to facilities and services.
Key Requirements
- Previous experience within facilities management, maintenance, estates, building services, or a similar role.
- Knowledge of building systems, including heating, ventilation, and plumbing.
- Good understanding of health and safety, compliance, and security procedures.
- Experience managing contractors and external service providers.
- Ability to carry out site inspections and identify maintenance requirements.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to prioritise workloads and work independently using initiative.
- Flexible approach to working hours and operational demands.
- Experience completing reports and maintaining accurate records.
Desirable
- Experience within education, healthcare, public sector, or multi-site environments.
- Knowledge of planned preventative maintenance programmes.
- Experience using facilities management systems.
- IOSH, NEBOSH, IWFM, or other relevant qualifications.
- Full UK driving licence.
