Assistant Facilities Manager Location: Newcastle upon Tyne Salary: 30,000 - 32,000 + Shift Allowance Job Type: Permanent Full-Time The Role An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Facilities Manager to join a busy facilities team supporting a portfolio of sites across Newcastle. Working closely with the Facilities Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring buildings are safe, secure, compliant, and maintained to a high standard. You will support the delivery of both planned and reactive maintenance activities, supervise contractors, assist with building operations, and contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of multiple sites. This role offers a varied workload and would suit an experienced facilities, maintenance, estates, or building services professional looking to further develop their career. Key Responsibilities Support the day-to-day management of facilities operations across multiple sites. Carry out regular facilities inspections and implement remedial actions where required. Monitor and operate building services including heating, ventilation, and plumbing systems. Coordinate reactive and planned preventative maintenance activities. Open, close, and secure buildings in accordance with operational requirements. Supervise contractors and ensure work is completed safely and to agreed standards. Undertake minor maintenance and repair tasks as required. Support porterage, room set-ups, and general site operations. Maintain accurate records, compliance documentation, and inspection reports. Assist with health and safety monitoring, risk assessments, and site security procedures. Respond to facilities-related issues and emergencies promptly and effectively. Identify opportunities for ongoing improvements to facilities and services. Key Requirements Previous experience within facilities management, maintenance, estates, building services, or a similar role. Knowledge of building systems, including heating, ventilation, and plumbing. Good understanding of health and safety, compliance, and security procedures. Experience managing contractors and external service providers. Ability to carry out site inspections and identify maintenance requirements. Strong organisational and time-management skills. Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities. Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Ability to prioritise workloads and work independently using initiative. Flexible approach to working hours and operational demands. Experience completing reports and maintaining accurate records. Desirable Experience within education, healthcare, public sector, or multi-site environments. Knowledge of planned preventative maintenance programmes. Experience using facilities management systems.
