Full time Construction Project Manager Management Architect and Design Property

Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Manager to join a well-established and growing multidisciplinary property and construction consultancy in Manchester.

The business has an excellent reputation across the UK and a particularly strong track record delivering complex projects and programmes for major public and private sector organisations.

With a growing Manchester team, an established pipeline of work and recent investment at senior Project Director level, they are now looking to appoint an ambitious Project Manager who wants to take greater ownership of projects, develop directly with clients and progress towards Senior Project Manager and beyond.

The Opportunity

What makes this role particularly interesting is the breadth and scale of the work.

The consultancy is involved in everything from major refurbishment, retrofit and workplace programmes through to new-build developments, regeneration, estate improvement and complex multi-building schemes.

They also hold positions on major public-sector frameworks and support long-term programmes across large and operationally complex property estates. This means you aren't necessarily joining to work on one project or one type of scheme for the next few years.

Projects and programmes can include:

  • Major refurbishment, fit-out and workplace programmes
  • Retrofit, lifecycle replacement and decarbonisation
  • Complex new-build developments and regeneration schemes
  • Multi-building estate and long-term capital investment programmes
  • Projects delivered within live and operational environments

The team works across the full project lifecycle, from early feasibility, business case and project strategy through procurement, design development, construction, handover and occupation.

About the Business

The company is an established multidisciplinary property and construction consultancy providing Project Management, Cost Management, Building Consultancy, Architecture, Engineering and wider advisory services.

One of the advantages of the business is its genuinely multidisciplinary structure.

As a Project Manager, you aren't operating within an isolated PM team. You'll work alongside specialists across cost, building consultancy, design, engineering and other technical disciplines, giving you much broader exposure to how complex projects are developed and delivered.

The consultancy has built long-standing relationships with major organisations across the UK and is regularly appointed to support both individual capital projects and larger estate-wide programmes.

A significant proportion of its work is secured through repeat relationships, direct appointments and established frameworks, creating a strong forward pipeline for the team.

The Manchester Team

The Manchester operation is established but continuing to grow, with recent investment strengthening the senior Project Management leadership within the office.

You'll work alongside experienced Project Directors, Senior Project Managers and specialists from across the wider consultancy.

For someone at Project Manager level, this creates a good balance. There are experienced people around you to learn from and provide support when required, but the team is growing enough that you can still become visible, take genuine responsibility and progress.

Rather than sitting within multiple layers of management, you'll have direct access to senior members of the business while being encouraged to develop your own client relationships and projects.

The Role

As Project Manager, you'll take responsibility for managing projects and workstreams from inception through to completion.

You'll work directly with clients, consultants, contractors and internal technical teams to ensure projects are successfully delivered, while gradually taking greater responsibility for client management, programme, risk, governance and commercial performance.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing construction, refurbishment and development projects from inception through to completion
  • Taking ownership of individual projects and workstreams within larger programmes
  • Acting as a key day-to-day client contact and building long-term relationships
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary consultant, design and contractor teams
  • Developing project programmes, delivery strategies and reporting frameworks
  • Managing project risk, change, governance and key milestones
  • Supporting procurement, tendering, contract strategy and administration
  • Leading project and stakeholder meetings and preparing management information
  • Monitoring programme, cost, quality and overall delivery performance
  • Supporting and developing more junior members of the Project Management team

As you develop, you'll be encouraged to become increasingly autonomous, taking greater ownership of your projects and client relationships rather than remaining in a supporting PM position.

About You

This would particularly suit someone with around 2-3+ years experience who feels ready to take the next step in their Project Management career.

You may currently be working within a construction consultancy, contractor or client-side organisation and be looking for broader project exposure and greater responsibility.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • Experience delivering construction, refurbishment, fit-out or development projects across multiple lifecycle stages
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills
  • Understanding of programme, risk, procurement and project governance
  • Commercial awareness around project cost and change
  • Confidence taking ownership of projects and resolving issues
  • A relevant construction or property-related degree
  • MRICS, MAPM, MCIOB or progress towards professional accreditation would be advantageous

Experience working within large estates, complex operational environments, public-sector programmes or multidisciplinary projects would also be particularly relevant.

Progression

There is a genuine opportunity to build a longer-term career within the Manchester team.

The business is continuing to invest in its Project Management capability and wants people who can develop alongside that growth.

You'll have access to experienced senior professionals, structured professional development and support towards relevant chartership while being given increasing autonomy as your experience develops.

What's on Offer

  • Competitive salary, comprehensive benefits package and hybrid/flexible working
  • Strong pipeline of secured work across major projects and long-term programmes

You'll also gain varied refurbishment, retrofit, new-build and redevelopment experience, full project lifecycle exposure, genuine project and client ownership, direct access to experienced Project Directors and support towards professional accreditation.

For a Project Manager who wants more variety, greater ownership and somewhere they can genuinely progress, this is an excellent opportunity to join an established consultancy while its Manchester Project Management team continues to grow.
