We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to join a major civil engineering delivery team, overseeing complex infrastructure works across multiple active sites. This role is central to ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery across earthworks, drainage, and structural packages.
The Role
As Construction Manager, you will lead and coordinate a team of Non-Working Supervisors (NWS) and Frontline Supervisors (FLS), working alongside site operatives to deliver works safely, on time, and to specification.
You will take responsibility for ensuring a strong safety culture, effective communication, and consistent implementation of safe systems of work across your area.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage site supervisors and ensure safe, compliant delivery of works
- Oversee implementation and adherence to safe systems of work
- Carry out regular site inspections, identify hazards, and ensure corrective actions are closed out
- Ensure toolbox talks, inductions, and safety briefings are delivered to a high standard
- Monitor workforce performance, quality standards, and site compliance
- Coordinate plant, materials, and equipment, ensuring efficient site logistics
- Support project planning and provide technical input into programmes
- Maintain accurate site records, allocation sheets, and inspection documentation
- Liaise closely with Project Managers on progress, workforce performance, and delivery issues
- Drive health & safety compliance, including PPE adherence and welfare standards
- Identify and resolve site issues, contributing to technical and practical solutions
- Monitor plant usage, off-hire/on-hire processes, and cost control awareness
- Promote high standards of housekeeping, site organisation, and waste control
- Support onboarding, training, and development of site teams and apprentices
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience in a Construction Manager or Senior Site Supervisor role within civil engineering
- Strong knowledge of earthworks, drainage, deep excavation, sheet piling, and temporary works systems
- Experience managing safe systems of work and exclusion zones
- Strong understanding of health & safety legislation and site compliance requirements
- Ability to lead and develop site teams, including supervisors and operatives
- Good commercial awareness and understanding of programme and cost implications
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities across active sites
