Senior Design Manager

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Manager to join a major new build prison project in Erlstoke. This is a high-profile scheme requiring a strong background in secure government projects and the ability to manage complex design processes from pre-construction through delivery.

This is a full-time, site-based role (5 days per week in the office), working closely with the project team to ensure design coordination, compliance, and programme delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the design process across all project stages
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams including consultants and subcontractors
• Ensure design information is delivered on time, within budget, and to programme
• Manage design change, risk, and technical compliance
• Liaise with client, stakeholders, and internal teams
• Ensure all design output meets MoJ requirements and relevant regulations
• Oversee design reviews, buildability, and value engineering processes
• Support the project team in resolving design and technical issues

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Senior Design Manager on large-scale construction projects
• Essential: Previous Ministry of Justice (MoJ) project experience
• Strong understanding of design management across all RIBA stages
• Experience delivering complex, secure or public-sector schemes
• Excellent communication, coordination, and leadership skills
• Ability to work full-time on site (5 days per week)

• BPSS Clearance (must already be in place)
