Job Description

Pedestrian crane operator - Exeter

Commercial - Accommodation new build

An excellent opportunity to start a long agency position as a pedestrian crane operator on a new build commercial development near Exeter city centre.

You will be in charge operating the pedestrian crane, handling all lifts from start to finish. The ped crane will be situated in the middle of the site so you will be building around yourself. The bulk of the work will be erecting the concrete frame. Space is very limited with traffic and pedestrians moving around the project, as well as multiple site operatives working within the compound. You will have several slingers allocated to assist you in different levels or areas of the building. There will also be a singer allocated just to sling materials that arrive. The project is expected to run for 12 months.

Day to day:

  • Operate pedestrian-controlled cranes to lift, move, and position materials safely on site.
  • Transport concrete formwork components (e.g. shutters, panels, beams) around the structure.
  • Assist with placing reinforcement materials such as rebar, mesh, and cages.
  • Lift and position concrete skips/buckets during pours.
  • Move construction materials like timber, steel sections, and equipment to work areas.
  • Work closely with slingers/signallers to follow lifting plans and hand signals.
  • Carry out pre-use inspections and daily checks on the crane.
  • Navigate tight or confined spaces safely.
  • Maintain clear communication with supervisors and other trades.
  • Follow site safety procedures, including exclusion zones and lifting regulations.
  • Assist with general site logistics and material distribution.
  • Report crane faults or defects.
  • Adhere to method statements and risk assessments for lifting operations.

Requirements:

  • An NPORS or CPCS Ped crane ticket.
  • You must have previous experience to be eligible for this role.
  • You must be competent in delivering all of the above tasks.
  • Good communication.
  • Good timekeeping.
  • Able to work well within a team.
  • To conduct ones self professionally at all times.
  • To maintain a safe and tidy working environment.
