Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Assist tradespeople such as builders, engineers, electricians, or technicians

Load, unload, transport, and store materials and equipment safely

Prepare job sites: clear debris, dig trenches or pits, mix materials, or erect scaffolding

Operate hand tools and, where qualified, light machinery (e.g., forklifts, dumper trucks, excavators) under supervision

Maintain site cleanliness and orderly storage of materials

Set up safety barriers, signs, and fencing to secure working areas

Follow site-specific safety procedures and adhere to Health and Safety guidelines, including handling hazardous materials when required

Report equipment malfunctions or hazards and assist in basic maintenance of tools and vehicles

Record activities, material usage, or time sheets using handheld or desktop systems

Support deliveries, site inspections, and other logistical duties as instructed

Skills and Attributes

Physical fitness and stamina to handle heavy lifting, prolonged outdoor work, and varying site conditions

Ability to follow instructions accurately and work with minimal supervision

Teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues and supervisors

Awareness of Health and Safety regulations and PPE usage

Basic numeracy and literacy skills; ability to use hand-held ICT devices is advantageous Attention to detail, reliability, punctuality, and adaptability

Optional: experience in operating machinery, driving license, or additional certifications (e.g., CSCS card) is desirable

Qualifications and Experience

Entry-level roles may require minimal formal qualifications but a CSCS card or equivalent is often essential

Experience working on construction or industrial sites is advantageous, particularly in EFW, waste management, or civil engineering projects

Completion of vocational courses, apprenticeships, or BTEC in construction may be beneficial
