Key Responsibilities
1. Electrical Maintenance & Repairs
- Fault finding and rectification on:
- Lighting systems (including anti-ligature fittings)
- Power distribution systems
- Emergency lighting
- Fire alarm interfaces or Fire alarm systems
- Cell call systems
- Door control systems (where applicable)
- Reactive maintenance responding to breakdowns
- Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM)
2. Installation Work
- Installation of containment (conduit, tray, trunking)
- Wiring of distribution boards and sub-circuits
- Installation of secure lighting and power systems
- Upgrading legacy systems to meet current standards
3. Compliance & Safety
- IET Wiring Regulations (18th Edition)
- Health & Safety at Work Act
- Prison security protocols
- Tool accountability procedures
- Escorting and movement compliance within the establishment
- Risk assessments and method statements (RAMS)
You must:
- Maintain professional conduct at all times
- Avoid inappropriate interaction with prisoners
- Report security concerns immediately
- Follow prison communication rules
- Secure or government sites
Required Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation
- City & Guilds 2365 / 2357 (or equivalent)
- 18th Edition (BS 7671)
- AM2 qualification
- ECS Gold Card
- EL1 Clearance Requirement
