Job Description

Goodman Masson are currently working with a social housing organisation in London to recruit for an interim Planned Works Surveyor.

Pay Rate: £35 - £45 per hour Umbrella

An established housing and property organisation is seeking an experienced Building Surveyor to join their Planned Investment team. This is a key role supporting the delivery of high-quality, value-for-money investment programmes across a diverse residential property portfolio.

The Role

You will support the Project Manager in delivering all aspects of planned works to customers homes, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, to budget and to a high standard. The role involves surveying, specification writing, contractor management and project delivery across a range of refurbishment and investment programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out stock condition, validation, mid-work and post-completion inspections
  • Prepare technical specifications, schedules of work and scheme designs
  • Manage and monitor programmes of planned works, ensuring quality, cost and programme control
  • Identify building defects and provide costed repair solutions
  • Support project management of complex planned works projects
  • Certify contractor payments in conjunction with Quantity Surveyors
  • Monitor contractor and consultant performance against KPIs
  • Ensure full compliance with H&S, CDM and statutory requirements
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and external contractors to resolve issues efficiently
  • Prepare planning applications and respond to consultations where required
  • Provide technical advice on building regulations, construction design and property legislation
  • Mentor and support colleagues towards professional development and accreditation

About You

You will be an experienced Building Surveyor with strong technical knowledge and a background in delivering planned investment or refurbishment programmes within residential property.

Essential:

  • Relevant surveying qualification or working towards (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience delivering planned works / refurbishment programmes
  • Strong knowledge of building construction, defects and repairs
  • Ability to write clear, detailed technical reports and specifications
  • Experience using contract forms such as JCT / NEC
  • Excellent IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable:

  • Membership of RICS, CIOB or similar professional body
  • Degree in Building Surveying or similar
  • Experience within social housing, local authority or large residential portfolios
