Senior Quantity Surveyor - Leading Independent London Contractor

Summary:

Senior Quantity Surveyor - London-based contractor. Manage 500k- 4m commercial & heritage refurbishment projects, controlling budgets, variations, and final accounts. Liaise with clients, design teams, and subcontractors. RICS-accredited/Chartered, experienced with JCT/NEC contracts, CDM and UK building regs. Lead QS team, report to board, and ensure commercial compliance. Salary up to 80k, Central London, immediate start

Our client, a respected London-based contractor, is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team, delivering a mix of commercial refurbishment projects across London. Projects range in value from 500k to 4m, covering schools, hospitals, universities, offices, and other developments.

The Role:

  • Take overall responsibility for managing and controlling project budgets, ensuring profitability and commercial compliance.
  • Advise site teams on project and variation costings, providing accurate, timely commercial guidance.
  • Liaise with clients, design teams, and subcontractors on final accounts and contractual matters.
  • Work closely with estimators to prepare cost plans, tender documentation, and interim valuations.
  • Monitor and control project cash flow, risk, and contractual obligations.
  • Supervise and mentor junior and project QSs, reporting directly to the board and working alongside the Contracts Manager and Construction Director.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety, contractual, and regulatory requirements across all projects.

Candidate Requirements:

  • RICS-accredited degree or Chartered RICS status.
  • Proven experience as a QS on commercial refurbishment projects.
  • Contract Knowledge: In-depth understanding and experience with standard UK forms of contract, such as JCT and NEC, essential for contract administration and legal matters.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Thorough knowledge of UK building regulations, CDM regulations, and health & safety requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of construction procurement and cost management.
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • IT literate, including cost management software.
  • Confident managing multiple projects simultaneously, with values between 500k and 4m.
