The Role
As a Trainee Quantity Surveyor you will join our Commercial team and support the cost management and commercial control functions across our development and contracting projects. Reporting to the Senior Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager, your duties will include:
Assisting in estimating, procurement and cost planning of subcontractor packages.
Supporting measurement and preparation of interim valuations and final accounts.
Helping maintain cost/value reconciliation, cashflow forecasting and budget tracking.
Assisting with subcontractor enquiries, tender returns and compiling comparison schedules.
Visiting site with the QS team to carry out take-offs from drawings/specifications and support site valuations.
Learning and developing a strong understanding of contract forms (e.g., JCT / NEC) and the commercial risks of construction projects.
What we re looking for
A degree, HNC or HND (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a relevant discipline or a strong desire to pursue a QS career.
Some exposure to construction (site, measurement, procurement) is desirable though not essential.
Strong numeracy, excellent IT skills (especially Excel) and good communication skills.
A motivated, self-starting individual keen to learn and progress.
Ability to travel around Essex / Home Counties sites, and to work from our office when required.
A full driving licence would be beneficial.
