This key position sits within West Yorkshire Police’s Estates and Business Services Directorate, providing expert M&E support across a diverse estate of around 100 operational and specialist buildings. We’re looking for someone who can work confidently both independently and as part of a busy team, managing a varied workload with ease.
As a key member of our technical team, you’ll deliver in‑house assurance, on‑site inspections, contractor oversight and compliance monitoring across projects, reactive and planned maintenance, and major installations. You’ll work closely with project managers, engineers and specialists to keep our estate safe, compliant and performing at its best.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled building services professional to play a vital role in maintaining and improving a complex live estate while contributing to impactful projects that directly support frontline policing. The role is based primarily in Central Wakefield; however, the ability to travel throughout West Yorkshire is essential.
Role and Responsibilities
You will play a key role in ensuring the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of all mechanical and electrical works across the estate. This includes overseeing contractor performance, carrying out on‑site inspections, contributing to surveys, validating compliance, and helping project teams resolve technical issues and improving asset data.
To succeed, you’ll need a strong working knowledge of industry regulations, standards, and Health and Safety requirements, along with the ability to tackle day‑to‑day issues and solve practical problems with confidence.
Key duties include:
Supervising mechanical and electrical elements of construction, refurbishment, repairs and maintenance works
Carrying out on‑site inspections, audits, validations and monitoring to ensure compliance with design, specification, legislation and industry best practice
Supporting the delivery of M&E engineering projects, including planned and reactive maintenance and minor works
Liaising with contractors, consultants and internal teams to resolve technical issues and maintain consistent standards
Monitoring performance of mechanical and electrical systems, including Building Management Systems (BMS), to ensure safety, reliability and effectiveness
Working to tender specifications, contract documentation and technical drawings
Identifying risks, escalating issues and ensuring corrective action is taken where required

Ability to work to specifications, tender scopes and technical drawings

About us We are a commercial consultancy based in Feltham, specialising in the delivery of data centre projects. Our clients rely on us for commercial and contract management across complex mechanical and electrical (M&E) packages, typically procured under NEC contracts. We are looking for an ambitious graduate to join our growing team and develop a career in this fast-moving sector. The role You will support our commercial team on live data centre projects, working on the cost management and contractual administration of M&E packages. This is a hands-on graduate role with structured development and exposure to high-value, technically complex projects from day one. Key responsibilities Cost management You will assist with the preparation and monitoring of cost plans, budgets and cash flow forecasts for M&E works. You will carry out measurement and take-offs of M&E services, help build up cost estimates, and review and analyse subcontractor and supplier quotations, preparing tender comparisons and reports. You will also assist with the valuation of interim payments, including materials on and off site and long-lead equipment such as generators, UPS systems, switchgear, chillers and CRAH/CRAC units, and track cost movements to prepare regular cost reports for clients and project teams. NEC contract administration You will support the administration of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts, including the Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC) and its main options (A to F). This includes assisting with the preparation, assessment and tracking of compensation events, early warning notices and programme-related change, and maintaining accurate contract records, registers and correspondence in line with contractual time limits. You will also help prepare payment assessments, certificates and notices under the contract. Project support You will attend site visits, progress meetings and commercial meetings, taking notes and following up actions, and liaise with project managers, design teams, contractors and supply chain partners. You will monitor design development and change, flagging potential cost and commercial impacts early, and assist with final account preparation and project close-out. Professional development You will work towards RICS chartership through the APC (Assessment of Professional Competence), with mentoring and support from senior colleagues. Person specification Essential We are looking for someone with a degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline, ideally RICS accredited. You will have a genuine interest in M&E services and mission-critical environments, strong numeracy and attention to detail, and good written and verbal communication skills. You should be confident using Microsoft Excel and Word, able to manage your own workload and meet deadlines, and eligible to work in the UK. Desirable It would be an advantage to have placement, internship or work experience in a commercial or QS role, along with a basic understanding of NEC contracts, for example through coursework or NEC training. Familiarity with measurement software (such as Bluebeam or CostX) or cost management systems, an understanding of mechanical and electrical building services, and a full UK driving licence (useful for site visits) would also be welcome.
