Repairs and Maintenance Surveyor

  • Contract Type: Full Time, Temp
  • Location: Barnsley
  • Salary: £19.66 per hour PAYE or up to £27.42 via umbrella

Our client is seeking a Repairs and Maintenance Surveyor to provide technical expertise in building maintenance under the direction of the Repairs & Maintenance Manager and Senior Surveyor. This position is crucial for maintaining quality and safety across Revenue and Capital workstreams and ensuring a customer-focused, right-first-time approach.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Conduct technical surveys, produce scopes of work and drawings, and manage contracts to ensure financial control.
  • Collaborate with service areas to develop strategies, policies, and action plans.
  • Manage stakeholders and contracts for daily operations and project completion, ensuring projects meet specifications, timelines, and budgets.
  • Organise and chair meetings with contractors and partners to monitor and review repair and maintenance works, including performance against KPIs.
  • Maintain accurate housing stock records and ensure compliance with statutory legislation and housing standards.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and stakeholders and update tenant-facing information.
  • Conduct Energy Performance Certificate assessments and contribute to achieving EPC C ratings by 2030.
  • Deputise for the Senior Surveyor when required.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Level 4 qualification (e.g., HNC/NVQ) in a relevant field or extensive experience with willingness to qualify.
  • Level 3 Diploma in Domestic Energy Assessment or willingness to achieve.
  • Resilient, enthusiastic, and customer-focused attitude with an understanding of social housing regulations and statutory duties.
  • Experience in similar roles within domestic/non-domestic housing.
  • Ability to diagnose building defects and recommend solutions.
  • Knowledge of housing construction and maintenance methods.
  • Budgetary awareness and workload prioritisation.
  • Strong communication and report writing skills.
  • IT proficiency (Excel, Word, Outlook, databases).

Additional Requirements:

  • Use of own vehicle to travel across the borough for housing stock surveys.
  • Completion of reports and paperwork via provided iPad.
  • Liaison with contractors, partners, and customers regarding required works.
