Job Description

1. Safety Leadership & Compliance (Primary Duty)

  • Enforce the Construction Phase Plan and site-specific Risk Assessments & Method Statements (RAMS).

  • Conduct daily toolbox talks and ensure all team members understand the task-specific risks.

  • Ensure 100% compliance with CDM 2015 regulations, acting as the principal point of contact for site safety.

  • Supervise and enforce Working at Height Regulations 2005 (harness use, scaffolding, MEWPs).

  • Manage lifting operations in accordance with LOLER 1998 and BS 7121 (Safe Use of Cranes).

  • Halt any unsafe acts or conditions immediately.

2. Team Management & Supervision

  • Supervise a team of steel erectors, riggers, and slinger/signallers.

  • Allocate daily tasks, manage labour resources, and monitor productivity.

  • Mentor junior staff and apprentices, promoting a culture of safety and quality.

  • Manage site logistics and coordinate deliveries of steel and materials.

3. Quality & Technical Control

  • Oversee the erection of steel columns, beams, and trusses to precise engineering tolerances (typically 3-5mm).

  • Interpret and implement engineering drawings (GA, detail, and connection drawings).

  • Ensure all bolted connections are torqued correctly and welded work (if applicable) meets BS EN ISO 3834 standards.

  • Conduct regular quality checks to ensure compliance with BS EN 1090 (Execution Class EXC2-EXC4).
