1. Safety Leadership & Compliance (Primary Duty)
Enforce the Construction Phase Plan and site-specific Risk Assessments & Method Statements (RAMS).
Conduct daily toolbox talks and ensure all team members understand the task-specific risks.
Ensure 100% compliance with CDM 2015 regulations, acting as the principal point of contact for site safety.
Supervise and enforce Working at Height Regulations 2005 (harness use, scaffolding, MEWPs).
Manage lifting operations in accordance with LOLER 1998 and BS 7121 (Safe Use of Cranes).
Halt any unsafe acts or conditions immediately.
2. Team Management & Supervision
Supervise a team of steel erectors, riggers, and slinger/signallers.
Allocate daily tasks, manage labour resources, and monitor productivity.
Mentor junior staff and apprentices, promoting a culture of safety and quality.
Manage site logistics and coordinate deliveries of steel and materials.
3. Quality & Technical Control
Oversee the erection of steel columns, beams, and trusses to precise engineering tolerances (typically 3-5mm).
Interpret and implement engineering drawings (GA, detail, and connection drawings).
Ensure all bolted connections are torqued correctly and welded work (if applicable) meets BS EN ISO 3834 standards.
Conduct regular quality checks to ensure compliance with BS EN 1090 (Execution Class EXC2-EXC4).
