The role sits across estimating and quantity surveying, so you'll be involved from the point an enquiry lands through to the commercial management of the job. You'll review drawings and specifications, prepare estimates and tenders, complete material and labour take-offs and obtain prices from suppliers and subcontractors. Once projects are live, your involvement will continue through site measures, valuations, applications for payment, variations, cost monitoring, subcontract accounts and final accounts. There will be a mixture of office and site-based work, giving you the chance to understand the projects properly rather than working purely from a spreadsheet. Who are they looking for? Some previous exposure to quantity surveying, estimating or the commercial side of construction is important. You'll need a basic understanding of construction costs and commercial processes, and ideally some experience with valuations, applications for payment, variations or site measures.
