An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal CDM Consultant / Principal Designer to join a leading multidisciplinary consultancy with an established reputation for delivering high-quality Health & Safety and CDM services across the built environment.

Based in Derby, you will work on a diverse portfolio of prestigious projects, partnering with clients across the real estate and construction sectors to deliver expert CDM consultancy, Principal Designer services and strategic Health & Safety advice.

This is a senior opportunity for an experienced professional looking to take ownership of projects, develop client relationships and contribute to the continued growth of an established consultancy.

The role would suit an experienced Principal Designer or Senior CDM Consultant. Candidates with the experience and capability to operate at Associate Director level will also be considered.

The Role

As a Principal CDM Consultant, you will provide expert guidance throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations while delivering practical, commercially focused advice.

Working closely with clients, design teams and contractors, you will help drive best practice in Health & Safety, manage project commissions and support the successful delivery of a wide range of developments.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver CDM and Health & Safety consultancy services across multiple projects.

• Undertake the Principal Designer role in accordance with the CDM Regulations 2015.

• Advise clients on their statutory responsibilities and Health & Safety obligations.

• Coordinate and manage design risk throughout the project lifecycle.

• Develop and review Pre-Construction Information and Health & Safety Files.

• Support design teams in identifying, eliminating and managing foreseeable risks.

• Carry out Health & Safety audits, inspections and performance reviews.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing clients.

• Manage multiple commissions, ensuring quality, programme and commercial objectives are achieved.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver excellent client service.

• Contribute to business development and the continued growth of the consultancy's services.

About You

You will be an experienced CDM professional with strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills and the confidence to build trusted relationships with clients and project teams.

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience delivering Principal Designer services under CDM 2015.

• Extensive knowledge of the CDM Regulations and wider construction Health & Safety legislation.

• Strong construction industry experience across a range of project types.

• Experience advising clients, designers and contractors on design risk and statutory responsibilities.

• Excellent organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and take responsibility for successful delivery.

• Relevant professional qualifications and experience in construction Health & Safety.

Desirable Experience

• NEBOSH Construction Certificate and/or NEBOSH Diploma, or equivalent.

• GradIOSH or equivalent professional membership.

• Membership of the Association for Project Safety (APS).

• Experience working within a multidisciplinary consultancy.

• Commercial awareness and the ability to develop long-term client relationships.

• Experience supporting business development and growing consultancy services.
