Location: South Yorkshire

Sector: Commercial and Public Sector Construction

Company Turnover: Approximately £7 million

The opportunity

We are working with an established main contractor operating across South Yorkshire, delivering a range of commercial and public sector construction projects. With a strong focus on quality, attention to detail and delivering projects to a high standard, the business is looking to appoint a Pre Construction Manager / Bid Writer to support its continued growth.

This is an excellent opportunity for an organised, commercially aware and detail-focused individual who can take ownership of the tender process, producing high-quality, compliant submissions that clearly demonstrate the company's capabilities, technical expertise and approach to project delivery.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage the end-to-end tender process, from initial tender review through to final submission.
  • Review tender documentation, specifications, drawings and employer's requirements, identifying key deliverables, deadlines and compliance criteria.
  • Prepare, write and coordinate high-quality responses to quality questions, ensuring submissions are tailored to each client's requirements and evaluation criteria.
  • Manage online tender portals, ensuring all documentation is uploaded correctly, and submissions are completed accurately and within deadlines.
  • Coordinate pre-tender and site surveys, gathering the information required to develop accurate and project-specific tender responses.
  • Liaise with estimators and the commercial team to ensure tender submissions align with pricing, scope, programme and proposed delivery arrangements.
  • Develop and coordinate construction methodology statements, logistics plans, phasing strategies and site establishment proposals.
  • Work with operational teams to prepare project-specific responses covering site management, access arrangements, traffic and pedestrian management, material deliveries and working within occupied or operational environments.
  • Compile project case studies, company experience, staff CVs, health and safety information, quality procedures, environmental credentials and social value responses.
  • Coordinate information from project managers, site teams, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure submissions are accurate, technically sound and commercially aligned.
  • Maintain a library of tender responses, company documentation, accreditations and supporting evidence.
  • Undertake final quality checks to ensure all submissions are complete, professionally presented and fully compliant with client requirements.
  • Support post-tender clarifications, client presentations and feedback reviews to continually improve future submissions.

The ideal candidate

  • Previous experience in a Bid Writer, Bid Coordinator or Tender Coordinator role within construction or a related built-environment sector.
  • Experience preparing tenders for a main contractor, ideally across commercial and public sector projects.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, professional and persuasive quality submissions.
  • Experience using online tender portals and managing multiple submissions to strict deadlines.
  • An understanding of construction methodology, site logistics, phasing, access constraints and project delivery requirements.
  • Confidence coordinating site surveys and obtaining technical information from operational and commercial teams.
  • Excellent organisational skills and a methodical approach to document control, compliance and quality assurance.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to ensure written proposals align with tender pricing and delivery commitments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
