An established and highly regarded regional main contractor is looking to appoint a Bid Manager to join its growing Pre-Construction team in Oxfordshire.
The business has built an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality, technically challenging construction projects across the education, healthcare, commercial, heritage, leisure and public sectors. Projects include new-build developments, complex refurbishments, extensions and specialist construction works, often undertaken within live or operational environments.
With a strong pipeline of work and an established presence across the South of England, this is an excellent opportunity to join a respected contractor and play an important role in securing future projects.
The company is particularly interested in candidates with a strong technical construction background who understand how projects are delivered in practice.
Applications are welcomed from experienced Bid Managers, Project Managers, Contracts Managers and technically strong Site Managers looking to move into a pre-construction and work-winning role.
Bid Manager The Role
Working closely with the Pre-Construction, Estimating and Operational teams, you will be responsible for coordinating and managing tenders from initial enquiry through to submission.
A key part of the position will involve developing practical construction methodologies, tender programmes and logistical strategies that demonstrate how projects can be delivered safely, efficiently and commercially.
You will have the opportunity to influence project delivery strategies at tender stage, working collaboratively with experienced construction professionals to develop competitive and technically robust submissions.
Key Responsibilities:
Managing and coordinating the bid process from initial enquiry through to tender submission.
Preparing high-quality technical and qualitative tender responses.
Developing construction programmes, sequencing strategies and site logistics plans.
Reviewing tender documentation, drawings, specifications and Employer's Requirements.
Working closely with Estimators, Project Managers, Contracts Managers and supply chain partners.
Identifying construction risks, buildability challenges and alternative delivery methodologies.
Contributing to tender strategies, contractor proposals and pre-construction planning.
Supporting framework submissions, two-stage tenders and negotiated projects.
Attending tender interviews, presentations and client meetings where required.
Coordinating successful handovers from pre-construction to operational delivery teams.
Bid Manager About You
We are keen to speak with candidates who have a strong technical understanding of construction and can contribute to developing practical, deliverable tender solutions.
Ideally, you will have:
Minimum five years' experience in Bid Management, Project Management, Contracts Management or Site Management.
Previous experience working for a regional or national main contractor.
Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing, programming and site logistics.
Experience contributing to tenders, construction methodologies or pre-construction planning.
Ability to review technical drawings, specifications and construction programmes.
Good knowledge of design and build contracts and construction procurement processes.
Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
Confidence working collaboratively with commercial, estimating and operational teams.
Relevant construction qualification preferred but not essential.
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office. Experience with InDesign would be advantageous.
Previous experience working on education, healthcare, commercial, heritage or other technically challenging construction projects would be particularly beneficial.
This opportunity could also suit an experienced operational construction professional who enjoys the technical planning and problem-solving aspects of project delivery and is looking to develop a career within pre-construction.
