I'm currently working with an established multidisciplinary consultancy that is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its growing team in Exeter.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven professional to take on a senior role within an established cost management team, delivering a diverse portfolio of projects across multiple sectors. You will play a key role in providing strategic cost advice, managing project finances and building strong relationships with clients and project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take ownership of projects, provide technical guidance to colleagues and contribute to the continued growth of the consultancy's cost management offering. This role would suit an experienced Quantity Surveyor looking to take the next step in their career or an established Senior Quantity Surveyor seeking a new challenge within a consultancy environment.
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, your responsibilities will include:
Leading the delivery of cost management and quantity surveying services from project inception through to completion.
Preparing and reviewing cost estimates, cost plans, budget forecasts and financial reports.
Advising clients on procurement strategies, contractual arrangements and commercial considerations.
Managing tender processes, including the preparation of tender documentation, evaluation of submissions and making recommendations.
Monitoring project expenditure, managing budgets and providing accurate, regular cost reports.
Overseeing measurement, valuations, variations and the agreement of final accounts.
Applying a strong understanding of NEC contracts to manage contractual procedures, commercial risks and change management processes.
Managing and assessing compensation events, variations and their financial implications.
Identifying value engineering opportunities and developing cost-effective solutions without compromising quality.
Acting as a key point of contact for clients, contractors, architects, project managers and wider consultant teams.
Managing multiple projects, ensuring financial objectives, deadlines and quality standards are achieved.
Providing guidance and support to junior team members, helping to develop their technical knowledge and professional capabilities.
Supporting the development of client relationships and contributing to new business opportunities.
We are keen to hear from Senior Quantity Surveyors who can demonstrate:
Proven experience in a Quantity Surveying or Cost Management role, ideally within a construction consultancy.
A good understanding of NEC contracts, including contractual procedures, change management and commercial administration.
Experience managing projects independently across the full project lifecycle.
Strong technical knowledge of cost planning, procurement, tendering and commercial management.
Experience managing project budgets, assessing variations, managing compensation events and agreeing final accounts.
The ability to manage client relationships and provide clear, commercially focused advice.
Strong financial, analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
Experience supporting or mentoring junior colleagues.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver projects to agreed timescales.
A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
MRICS chartership, or significant progress towards achieving chartered status.
The opportunity to work on a varied portfolio of projects across multiple sectors.
A senior position offering greater responsibility, autonomy and project ownership.
The chance to build and strengthen long-term client relationships.
A collaborative working environment alongside experienced cost management professionals.
Opportunities to mentor junior team members and contribute to the development of the wider team.
Ongoing professional development and support for further career progression.
The opportunity to play a key role in delivering successful projects and contributing to the consultancy's continued growth.
If you are a Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to take the next step in your career, or an established Senior Quantity Surveyor seeking a fresh challenge in Exeter or the surrounding Devon area, I would be keen to hear from you.
