Mechanical Construction Manager - Norwich - Permanent or Freelance

Location: Norwich, Norfolk

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Construction Manager to join a Tier 1 M&E contractor on a major educational development in Norwich.

The project involves a substantial £34 million M&E package and is scheduled to run through to late 2028, offering long-term stability and the opportunity to work on a significant construction scheme.

The contractor's preference is to recruit on a permanent basis, with a salary of up to £75,000 per annum depending on experience. However, experienced freelance candidates will also be considered, with day rates negotiable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee all mechanical building services installations throughout the construction programme.
  • Coordinate mechanical subcontractors, site teams and specialist suppliers to ensure works are delivered safely, on programme and to the required quality standards.
  • Work closely with the wider project team, including electrical managers, construction managers, consultants and the main contractor.
  • Monitor site progress, identify potential issues and implement solutions to maintain project deadlines.
  • Ensure all mechanical installations comply with design specifications, relevant regulations and project requirements.
  • Review technical drawings, resolve design and coordination issues, and manage the installation process from start to completion.
  • Oversee quality assurance, inspections, testing and commissioning activities.
  • Manage health and safety compliance across all mechanical works.
  • Attend progress meetings and provide regular updates on programme, labour, procurement and installation status.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Construction Manager or Mechanical Site Manager on large-scale construction projects.
  • Strong background in mechanical building services installation within the M&E sector.
  • Experience working for an M&E contractor on major commercial, educational or similarly complex developments.
  • Demonstrable experience managing subcontractors, site teams and mechanical packages.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical building services, installation sequencing and construction coordination.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.
  • Relevant mechanical qualifications and site management certifications.
