Reporting To: Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor



Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial team in delivering construction projects efficiently and cost-effectively. The successful candidate will assist with cost management, procurement, valuations, subcontractor administration, and financial reporting while gaining valuable experience within a fast-paced construction environment.



Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, budgets, and tender documentation.
  • Support the management of project costs throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Measure and value works completed on site.
  • Prepare and assist with interim valuations and final accounts.
  • Help manage subcontractor procurement, payments, and variations.
  • Maintain accurate records of project costs and contractual documentation.
  • Assist in identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Support monthly cost reporting and forecasting activities.
  • Liaise with project managers, site teams, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and contractual obligations.
  • Contribute to value engineering and cost-saving initiatives.


Requirements

  • Degree, HNC, HND, or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience in a Quantity Surveying role, placement year, apprenticeship, or construction environment is desirable.
  • Understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Full UK driving licence preferred.


Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts.
  • Experience working on residential, commercial, civil engineering, or infrastructure projects.
  • Working towards RICS or CIOB accreditation.
