Quantity Surveyor (Civils)

Overview

Our client is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor specialising in Civils projects to join their team in Bury St.Edmunds. In this vital role, you will oversee all aspects of cost management for civil engineering works, ensuring projects are delivered within budget while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. Your expertise will drive accurate cost estimation, diligent cost control, and effective contractual management to support the successful completion of complex infrastructure developments. Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for civil engineering projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
• Monitor project expenditures continuously, comparing actual costs against budgets to identify variances early.
• Implement robust cost control measures to optimise resource utilisation and prevent budget overruns throughout project lifecycle.
• Manage contractual agreements with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring compliance with scope and financial terms.
• Conduct regular site visits to assess progress, verify quantities, and ensure work aligns with contractual specifications.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to provide accurate financial insights and support decision-making.
• Maintain comprehensive records of all financial transactions, change orders, and variations for audit readiness and reporting purposes.

Experience

• Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering / infrastructure / groundwork projects.
• Strong knowledge of cost control techniques specific to civils works including earthworks, drainage, pavements, and structural elements.
• Familiarity with industry-standard estimating software and project management tools.
• Excellent understanding of contractual frameworks such as NEC or FIDIC contracts.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills to liaise confidently with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
• A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering is highly desirable.
