Environmental Advisor Energy & Infrastructure
Location: North Scotland / Various Project Locations
Salary: £40,000 + package
Working Pattern: Site-based, with 10/4 rotation available for those living further afield
Are you an Environmental Advisor looking for your next opportunity within major energy and infrastructure projects?
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing environmental team working across a major energy infrastructure framework in Scotland.
With six new Environmental Advisor and Manager positions being created, this is an excellent time to join a team that is expanding across a significant portfolio of transmission, substation, overhead line and renewable energy projects.
The role would suit an Environmental Advisor with a strong construction or infrastructure background who enjoys working on site and wants exposure to a wide range of environmental disciplines.
The Opportunity
As an Environmental Advisor, you will provide environmental and sustainability support across major infrastructure projects, working closely with project teams, environmental specialists and external consultants to ensure environmental requirements are effectively managed.
Projects are spread across several major areas in the north of Scotland, including:
Thurso and the surrounding area, including substation, HVDC converter and extension works
Carrig, Bonar Bridge and Ederton
Major overhead line works connecting the project areas
A portfolio of wider energy projects including Berryburn, Blackhillock, Elchies, Clashgowar and Coire Glas
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across a varied project portfolio, with particular exposure to areas such as ecology, peatlands, pollution prevention, geology, sustainability, carbon and environmental compliance.
What will you be doing?
Provide environmental and sustainability advice and support to project teams.
Carry out regular environmental inspections and site audits.
Identify environmental risks and ensure appropriate mitigation and controls are implemented.
Support the management of environmental incidents and investigations.
Ensure required environmental consents, permits, licences and exemptions are identified and obtained.
Monitor compliance with environmental legislation, project requirements and company procedures.
Maintain accurate environmental records and reporting information.
Review environmental data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Support environmental and sustainability campaigns and improvement plans.
Provide practical advice on environmental responsibilities to site and project personnel.
Work closely with environmental, ecology and other specialist consultants.
Promote environmental best practice across the projects.
Support areas including ecological mitigation, water management, pollution prevention, biodiversity, waste and contaminated land.
What are we looking for?
We're interested in Environmental Advisors from a range of backgrounds, particularly those with experience across construction, civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities or energy projects.
You should have:
Previous experience working in an Environmental Advisor or similar environmental role.
An Environmental or related degree.
Good working knowledge of environmental legislation within the construction industry.
Experience of practical environmental risk management on construction or infrastructure projects.
Knowledge of environmental consents, permits and licensing.
Experience in areas such as ecology, water management, pollution prevention, waste, biodiversity, peatlands or contaminated land.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with site and project teams.
A practical, site-focused approach to environmental management.
Associate ISEP membership, working towards PISEP, would be desirable, alongside knowledge of ISO 14001.
Candidates with a specialist background in one or two environmental disciplines are also encouraged to apply, as there is flexibility around individual experience.
Experience in peatland restoration, conservation or reinstatement would be particularly advantageous.

The role is predominantly site-based, five days per week. For candidates living approximately 1.5 2 hours from the project locations, a 10 days on / 4 days off rotation can be accommodated, with accommodation provided.
