An established and growing town planning consultancy is looking to appoint a Graduate Planner to join its team in Bury St Edmunds.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across a varied portfolio of planning projects for clients throughout the UK, gaining valuable experience in development management, planning applications, site appraisals, appeals and planning advice.

The role would suit a recent planning graduate looking to begin their career within a commercial planning consultancy, with excellent opportunities to develop their technical knowledge, client-facing skills and progress towards professional accreditation.

The Role

Working alongside experienced planning professionals, you will be involved in a range of projects from initial site assessment through to planning applications and appeals.

Responsibilities will include:

• Assisting with the preparation and submission of planning applications.
• Undertaking planning research, site appraisals and planning history reviews.
• Researching local and national planning policy.
• Assisting with the preparation of planning statements and supporting documentation.
• Liaising with local planning authorities, consultants and other stakeholders.
• Supporting the management of planning applications through the determination process.
• Assisting with planning appeals and representations where required.
• Undertaking site visits and preparing site assessment notes.
• Monitoring emerging planning policy and legislation.
• Supporting senior members of the team with client projects and planning advice.
• Building an understanding of commercial planning and development viability.
• Working collaboratively with architects, designers, highways consultants, ecologists and other specialist advisers.

Planware works nationally and has particular experience in retail-led development, restaurants, entertainment and leisure, as well as wider commercial and public-facing development.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

• A degree in Town Planning, Urban Planning, Geography or a related discipline.
• A genuine interest in pursuing a career within planning consultancy.
• An understanding of the UK planning system and planning policy.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Good research and analytical abilities.
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
• Good attention to detail.
• The ability to work independently as well as part of a wider team.
• Confidence communicating with colleagues, clients and external stakeholders.
• A proactive and enthusiastic approach to learning and professional development.

RTPI accreditation or eligibility to work towards Chartered Membership would be advantageous, but applications from strong planning graduates at the start of their careers are encouraged.
