The Company

A leading UK structural steelwork specialist with more than 75 years of industry experience, delivering the design, manufacture and construction of structural steelwork projects across the UK and Europe.

With a major manufacturing facility in South Yorkshire and the capacity to process approximately 50,000 tonnes of steel per annum, the business delivers projects ranging from standard building frames through to complex and technically demanding structures.

The Role

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Planner to strengthen the company's planning capability.

This is a specialist planning position responsible for developing, maintaining and communicating detailed project programmes using Asta Powerproject and/or Primavera P6.

Working closely with Estimating, Commercial, Production and Construction, you will bring together information from multiple disciplines and translate project requirements, methodology, sequencing and resource constraints into robust and deliverable programmes.

The role is based full-time at the Rotherham office, providing close interaction with operational and commercial teams and allowing programmes to be developed and adapted quickly as project requirements change.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed tender, pre-construction and live project programmes using Asta Powerproject and/or Primavera P6.
• Work closely with Estimating teams to understand scope, methodology, key dates, constraints and programme requirements.
• Produce accurate and commercially focused tender programmes within required timescales.
• Liaise with Production teams regarding fabrication requirements, sequencing, capacity, lead times and dependencies.
• Work with Construction teams to incorporate erection methodology, access, resources and site interfaces.
• Develop and maintain programme logic, critical paths, milestones, dependencies and key interfaces.
• Review client and main contractor programmes and assess their implications for the company's scope.
• Identify programme risks, constraints, opportunities and potential conflicts at an early stage.
• Challenge programme assumptions and work with operational teams to develop practical solutions.
• Maintain programmes throughout the project lifecycle, reflecting progress, delays and changing requirements.
• Produce clear programme reports covering progress, key dates, risks and priorities.
• Support project teams in understanding programme requirements and the impact of changes or delays.
• Assist with scenario planning and programme optimisation.
• Develop consistent planning standards, templates and best practice across the business.
• Build a strong understanding of fabrication, logistics and construction processes to continually improve programme accuracy.

About You

The successful candidate will have significant experience within a project planning or programming role, ideally gained within construction, structural steelwork, engineering or another project-led environment.

You will have:

• Strong practical experience using Asta Powerproject and/or Primavera P6.
• Experience developing detailed programmes from information provided by multiple disciplines.
• Strong knowledge of programme logic, sequencing, dependencies and critical path analysis.
• The ability to interpret drawings, specifications, tender information and project documentation.
• Experience producing programmes within demanding tender and project timescales.
• Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills and the confidence to obtain, challenge and coordinate information from stakeholders.
• The ability to manage multiple programmes and competing priorities.
• Excellent attention to detail alongside a strong understanding of overall project delivery strategy.

Desirable Experience

• Previous experience within structural steelwork, fabrication or engineering.
• Understanding of the relationship between design, procurement, fabrication, logistics and site erection.
• Experience across both tender/pre-construction and live project planning.
• Experience working directly with Estimating, Commercial, Production and Construction teams.
• Knowledge of contractual programme requirements and programme reporting.
