Civil Site Supervisor
Job Purpose:
The Civil Site Supervisor shall be responsible for supervising and coordinating all site-based civil engineering activities, ensuring that work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with the relevant project specifications, legislation, and company procedures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The Civil Site Supervisor shall undertake, but not be limited to, the following duties:
1. Health and Safety Compliance
- Enforce and comply with the Company's Health and Safety Policy and relevant statutory obligations.
- Following company Integrated Management Systems
- Conduct site inductions, toolbox talks, and daily briefings to ensure all personnel understand site-specific risks and control measures.
- Verify that all operatives are competent, trained, and authorised to use equipment and undertake assigned tasks.
- Ensure safe systems of work are implemented, including safe manual handling and proper equipment usage.
- Monitor plant, tools, and equipment to ensure they are properly maintained, guarded, and used in accordance with safety regulations.
- Respond promptly to unsafe conditions or incidents, reporting them to the Project Manager and recording them in accordance with company procedures.
- Carrying out monthly H&S audits
- Carrying Near Misses as required.
2. Environmental Responsibility
- Ensure site operations comply with all relevant environmental licenses and permits.
- Take all practicable steps to minimise the environmental impact of operations and promote sustainable practices.
3. Quality Assurance
- Ensure that all works are executed in accordance with the approved method statements, risk assessments, and project quality plans.
- Complete and maintain accurate site records, including daily diaries, labor and plant returns, test records, and variation documentation.
- Ensure timely implementation of all testing and inspection requirements as per project specifications.
- Ultilising the Eque 2 system, logging materials on and off site.
- Daily use of the company tablet system, logging H&S / Compliance documentation.
- Daily use of Checked Safe for vehicle logging.
- Raise any non-conformances or quality issues to the Project Manager promptly.
4. Operational Supervision
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of direct labor and subcontractors to meet project requirements, timelines, and safety standards.
- Verify resource availability (labor, materials, plant) ahead of planned works.
- Ensure work progresses in accordance with the program and highlight any risks to delivery.
- Maintain good housekeeping and always enforce professional conduct.
- Resolve on-site technical and logistic issues.
- Respond quickly to unforeseen challenges and adjust as necessary.
- Liaise with the Project Manager, client representatives, third parties, and members of the public, maintaining a positive company image on-site.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Proven experience supervising civil engineering works, including RC structures, drainage, highways, and earthworks.
- Working knowledge and implementation of Temporary Works Schemes (TWS).
- Strong organisational and leadership capabilities, with attention to detail in documentation and compliance.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
Mandatory Certifications:
- SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme)
- Supervisor Gold CSCS Card
- First Aid
- Temporary works supervisor
- Full UK Driving Licence
- PASMA - Desirable
- IPAF (MEWP) - Desirable
- Confine Spaces - Desirable
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant discipline - Desirable
Reporting Line:
The Civil Site Supervisor shall report directly to the Project Manager (or delegated line manager).
