This is a varied and commercially focused role, with a strong emphasis on tender management, estimating, material costing, procurement and project coordination.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting projects from the initial tender enquiry and estimating stage through to procurement and delivery, ensuring costs, materials, documentation and project requirements are accurately coordinated throughout the project lifecycle.
This opportunity would suit someone with a strong construction or shopfitting background who has experience working for a shopfitter, subcontractor, main contractor, builders' merchant or construction supplier, and who has a good understanding of construction materials, pricing and the practical requirements of delivering commercial interior projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate tender enquiries from initial receipt through to submission.
- Review drawings, specifications, schedules and tender documentation to establish project requirements.
- Obtain and compare material, plant and subcontractor costs to produce accurate project estimates.
- Liaise with builders' merchants and suppliers to obtain competitive material quotations and lead times.
- Prepare detailed material take-offs, costing sheets and tender breakdowns.
- Identify potential cost savings and alternative materials/products where appropriate.
- Assist with the preparation and submission of competitive tenders and quotations.
- Maintain accurate records of tender returns, supplier quotations and project costs.
- Coordinate material procurement once projects have been secured.
- Monitor material prices, availability and lead times throughout projects.
- Liaise with Site Managers, Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors and suppliers to ensure materials are ordered and delivered when required.
- Assist with project programmes, schedules and general project administration.
- Prepare and maintain project documentation, including RAMS, specifications, material schedules and procurement records, where required.
- Track project expenditure against agreed budgets and highlight potential cost increases or variations.
- Support multiple projects simultaneously from the Huntingdon head office.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, clients and internal teams.
- Assist with variations, additional works and revised quotations throughout the project lifecycle.
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience within the construction, shopfitting or commercial interiors industry is essential.
- Strong experience in tendering, estimating, costing or procurement.
- Good understanding of construction materials, products and their applications.
- Experience obtaining and negotiating supplier and merchant quotations.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications and schedules.
- Strong numerical and commercial awareness, with excellent attention to detail.
- Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders and projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with both site-based and head-office teams.
- Experience producing or coordinating RAMS and project documentation would be advantageous.
- Construction-related qualifications or relevant industry experience would be beneficial.
