The Opportunity
Our client is looking for an experienced Commissioning Planner to support the commissioning and start-up phase of a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in the Glasgow area.
This is a hands-on Commissioning Planner role requiring strong Primavera P6 capability combined with practical experience of commissioning, completions and handover activities within a regulated manufacturing, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical or process environment.
The successful Commissioning Planner will work closely with commissioning, engineering, construction, validation and project controls teams to develop, maintain and challenge the commissioning schedule through to operational readiness and handover.
Commissioning Planner key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and update detailed commissioning schedules using Primavera P6.
- Integrate commissioning activities with the wider construction and project master schedule.
- Develop logical commissioning sequences covering system completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning, testing and handover.
- Work closely with commissioning engineers and package owners to capture realistic durations, dependencies and constraints.
- Identify commissioning critical paths, schedule risks and potential bottlenecks.
- Monitor actual progress against the baseline and forecast completion dates.
- Produce look-ahead schedules and identify activities requiring intervention.
- Track system and subsystem readiness through mechanical completion into commissioning.
- Coordinate dependencies between construction completion, utilities availability, energisation, equipment testing and operational readiness.
- Support recovery planning and schedule optimisation where commissioning milestones are at risk.
- Provide clear schedule information and reporting to project and commissioning leadership.
- Maintain accurate schedule logic rather than relying solely on percentage-complete reporting.
Experience Required for Commissioning Planner
- Strong hands-on experience using Primavera P6 within major capital projects.
- Demonstrable experience planning commissioning and start-up activities, rather than purely construction planning.
- Good understanding of the transition from construction through mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning and handover.
- Experience developing commissioning logic at system or subsystem level.
- Ability to interrogate schedules, challenge commissioning teams and identify missing dependencies.
- Experience working within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, chemical, process manufacturing or another highly regulated environment would be highly advantageous.
- Strong stakeholder skills with the confidence to work directly with commissioning engineers, construction teams and project management.
Particularly Relevant Experience for Commissioning Planner
Candidates with experience of the following would be of particular interest:
- Pharmaceutical or biotechnology manufacturing facilities
- GMP-regulated environments
- Process equipment and utilities commissioning
- Clean utilities / HVAC / electrical / controls systems
- Systemisation and subsystem handover
- Mechanical Completion and Ready for Commissioning milestones
- FAT / SAT / functional testing
- Commissioning completion and handover
- Qualification or validation interfaces
- Integrated commissioning schedules
This role will suit an experienced Commissioning Planner, Senior Planner or Project Controls Planner who has personally developed and managed detailed commissioning schedules in Primavera P6.
