Location: Gloucestershire, with attendance across GHFT sites and hybrid working

Remuneration: £79,504 - £91,609 per annum

Lead the delivery of a significant healthcare capital portfolio across Gloucestershire

Seymour John Public Services is delighted to be partnering with Gloucestershire Managed Services Limited to recruit an exceptional Head of Capital Projects at a pivotal stage in the development of its Capital Delivery function.

This is a significant senior leadership opportunity for an experienced capital projects leader to take strategic and operational responsibility for the planning, prioritisation, governance, assurance and delivery of a capital investment portfolio valued at approximately £37 million per annum.

The Organisation GMS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and provides a broad range of estates, facilities, infrastructure and support services that enable frontline healthcare services to operate safely, efficiently and effectively.

The Opportunity The Head of Capital Projects will provide visible leadership to a multidisciplinary Capital Delivery function, working closely with the Associate Director Capital Projects, PMO & Compliance Manager, senior GMS colleagues and stakeholders across Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

  • lead the planning, development, prioritisation and delivery of the annual capital programme
  • provide strategic oversight of portfolio performance, risk, interdependencies and delivery confidence
  • oversee major construction, engineering, infrastructure, refurbishment and healthcare development projects
  • lead and develop a multidisciplinary Capital Delivery team of approximately 15 staff through 2 direct reports
  • strengthen programme governance, assurance, reporting, commercial management and value for money
  • support business case development, investment planning and the successful delivery of the Trust estate strategy

The person This role requires candidates with direct experience of large, complex capital, estates, infrastructure or healthcare construction programmes. It is not intended for generalist project managers who cannot evidence experience operating within substantial capital and estates environments.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification in construction, engineering, building surveying, architecture, project management, estates management or related discipline, with relevant professional membership and project/programme qualification such as APM PMQ or PRINCE2 Practitioner.
  • Clear experience in senior capital programme leadership, multidisciplinary team management, healthcare estates delivery, programme governance and commercial control.
  • Experience working in a complex, regulated, stakeholder-rich environment.
  • Strong communication, influencing, reporting and stakeholder management skills.
  • A commitment to governance, assurance, value for money, safety and continuous improvement.
