Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and reliable Building Fabric Engineer to join our facilities and maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair and upkeep of building fabric and associated elements across a range of commercial and/or industrial properties.
You will ensure buildings remain safe, secure, weatherproof and compliant, while delivering high-quality planned and reactive maintenance services.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive repairs and building fabric inspections.
- Inspect and maintain roofs, walls, ceilings, floors, doors, windows and external building elements.
- Undertake repairs to brickwork, plasterwork, concrete, render, sealants, finishes and other building materials.
- Carry out minor carpentry, joinery, decorating and general building repairs.
- Repair and maintain doors, locks, hinges, closers and other associated hardware.
- Identify defects, damage and potential building-fabric issues and recommend appropriate remedial works.
- Respond promptly to reactive maintenance requests and minimise disruption to building users.
- Complete maintenance records, job sheets and inspection reports accurately.
- Work safely and in accordance with company procedures, risk assessments and method statements.
- Ensure all work complies with relevant health and safety legislation and industry standards.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, facilities managers and other engineers where required.
- Support specialist contractors and supervise works when necessary.
- Maintain tools, equipment and company vehicles to an appropriate standard.
- Participate in an out-of-hours or emergency call-out rota where required.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a building fabric, maintenance or facilities engineering role.
- Good practical knowledge of general building maintenance and repair techniques.
- Competence in areas such as carpentry, joinery, plastering, decorating, roofing and basic masonry repairs.
- Ability to diagnose building defects and determine appropriate repair solutions.
- Good understanding of health and safety requirements within a maintenance environment.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- Strong communication and customer-service skills.
- Full UK driving licence, where the role requires travel between sites.
Desirable Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2/3 in a relevant building or construction discipline.
- City & Guilds qualification in a relevant trade.
- Relevant health and safety qualifications, such as IOSH or equivalent.
- Asbestos Awareness.
- IPAF/PASMA or relevant access-equipment training.
- CSCS card or equivalent construction-sector certification.
