We are currently recruiting for an experienced Approved Electrician to work on a secure prison establishment. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out electrical installation works, including containment and fire detection system wiring, while adhering to strict security procedures and maintaining the highest standards of workmanship.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Installation of electrical containment systems, including tray, basket, conduit and trunking.
- Wiring and installation of fire detection and alarm systems.
- Reading and interpreting electrical drawings and specifications.
- Ensuring all work is completed in accordance with current BS7671 Wiring Regulations.
- Maintaining a safe working environment and complying with all site health and safety procedures.
- Working efficiently within a secure custodial environment and following all prison security protocols.
- Liaising with site management and other trades to ensure work progresses to programme.
Essential Requirements
- Approved Electrician qualification (NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation or equivalent).
- ECS Gold Card (Approved Electrician).
- EL1 Security Clearance (essential).
- Standard DBS Certificate (essential).
- Proven experience installing containment systems.
- Previous experience wiring fire detection and fire alarm systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Own tools and appropriate PPE.
Desirable
- Previous experience working within prisons, secure environments, MOD or similar high-security sites.
- Experience with addressable fire alarm systems.
- IPAF and PASMA qualifications (advantageous).

Security Requirements
Due to the nature of the project, all applicants must hold current EL1 Clearance and an Standard DBS Certificate before commencing work. Candidates will also be required to comply with all prison security and induction procedures.
