Location: Hyde, Greater Manchester

Duration: 18 months

We are seeking an experienced Civils Site Manager to lead and manage civil engineering projects within the United Utilities AMP8 framework, specifically focusing on temporary works, earthworks, and infrastructure projects in Hyde. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of civil engineering works on site, ensuring all activities meet quality, health, safety, and environmental standards. This role requires strong leadership to coordinate site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers, while maintaining effective communication with clients and stakeholders. The Site Manager will oversee all aspects of site operations, including temporary works management, earthworks execution, and project delivery in line with programme and budget requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day site operations for civil engineering projects, ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Lead and coordinate temporary works, ensuring all temporary works are identified, planned, and executed safely and in accordance with regulations.
  • Oversee earthworks activities, including site clearance, bulk excavation, ground levelling, and formation of development platforms.
  • Plan and manage resources including labour, plant, materials, and subcontractors to meet project milestones.
  • Maintain accurate site records, progress reports, and documentation for client and regulatory compliance.
  • Liaise with clients, designers, subcontractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Promote a positive safety culture and ensure all site personnel are inducted and briefed on safe working practices.
  • Resolve site issues proactively to maintain programme and budget targets.

Skills:

  • Proven experience in civil engineering site management
  • Expertise in temporary works coordination and supervision
  • Strong knowledge of earthworks and groundworks processes
  • Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and site teams effectively
  • Excellent understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Strong organisational and planning skills
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management
  • Competent in interpreting technical drawings and specifications
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Software/Tools:

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Project management and scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) desirable
  • Digital documentation and reporting tools

Certifications & Standards:

  • CSCS Site Manager or Supervisor Card (Black or Gold)
  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme)
  • Temporary Works Coordinator or Supervisor certification (essential)
  • First Aid at Work
  • NRSWA Supervisor (desirable)
  • Full UK Driving Licence
