Construction Planner Main Contractor West Hertfordshire £65,000 £80,000 + Car or Car Allowance + Benefits Package

An established regional main contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Construction Planner.

The company delivers a varied portfolio of new-build and refurbishment projects across London and the Home Counties, including education, healthcare, commercial, residential, heritage and community schemes. Projects generally range from £1 million to £5 million, with larger schemes reaching £10 million.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a stable contractor with long-term work secured, experienced management and a supportive approach to professional development. The successful candidate will join an established Pre-Construction and Estimating team, contributing to a diverse pipeline of projects from the earliest tender stages.

The position offers considerable variety, exposure to both new-build and refurbishment projects and a clear opportunity for continued progression. A degree of hybrid working can also be discussed, providing additional flexibility alongside the office and project-based responsibilities.

The Role

The Construction Planner will play an important role throughout the tender and pre-construction process, developing detailed programmes and supporting information that clearly demonstrate how each project will be delivered.

Working closely with the Estimating, Design, Commercial and Operational teams, responsibilities will include:

• Producing tender and pre-construction programmes
• Preparing logistics plans, method statements and phasing strategies
• Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation
• Assessing buildability, construction methodology and project sequencing
• Identifying programme risks, opportunities and key project drivers
• Establishing design, procurement and construction activities
• Liaising with clients, consultants, internal teams and supply-chain partners
• Presenting clear and accurate planning information at tender interviews and meetings

This is predominantly a pre-construction-focused position, although the successful candidate will maintain close contact with the operational teams to ensure that tender programmes are realistic, practical and deliverable.

The Candidate

The successful applicant will be an experienced Construction Planner or Pre-Construction Planner with a strong understanding of building construction, methodology and sequencing.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

• Proven planning or pre-construction experience with a UK building contractor or main contractor
• Experience producing tender and pre-construction programmes
• A background across new-build, refurbishment or fit-out projects
• Strong working knowledge of Asta Powerproject or comparable planning software
• The ability to produce logistics plans, method statements and phasing strategies
• A sound understanding of buildability, design coordination and procurement
• Strong communication, presentation and coordination skills
• The confidence to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team
• A full UK driving licence would be preferred

Remuneration

The successful Construction Planner will receive:

• £65,000 £80,000 basic salary
