Obtain, analyse, and compare supplier quotations to ensure best value and commercial advantage. Negotiate pricing, rebates, payment terms, and framework agreements with suppliers. Develop and manage relationships with key suppliers and manufacturers across the civil engineering supply chain. Monitor market trends, material availability, and pricing fluctuations to minimise project risk and maximise savings. Work closely with operational, commercial, and site management teams to forecast material requirements and support project delivery. Raise, manage, and track purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company procedures. Coordinate and monitor deliveries to ensure materials are supplied on time and in accordance with project programmes. Skills & Experience Proven experience as a Buyer within groundworks, civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities, or the wider construction sector. Strong knowledge of civil engineering and groundworks materials, suppliers, and procurement processes. Demonstrable experience negotiating with suppliers and securing commercially advantageous agreements. Ability to manage multiple projects and procurement schedules simultaneously. Strong commercial awareness with a focus on cost management and value engineering. Experience using procurement, ERP, or commercial management systems (e.g. Evolution M or similar) would be advantageous. Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills. Overview Our client, a specialist contractor delivering major geotechnical and foundation works across the UK s largest infrastructure programmes, is seeking an experienced Supervisor to support the safe and successful delivery of ground engineering works on site. Job Description Reporting to a General Superintendent or senior site management, you will play a key operational role coordinating daily site activities and supervising construction teams across designated work areas, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, to high quality standards, and in line with the programme. Working closely with engineers, construction teams, subcontractors, and specialist operatives, you will contribute to the delivery of technically complex geotechnical and foundation packages. Key Responsibilities Supervise day-to-day construction activities across designated work areas Coordinate site operations to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with programme and quality requirements Manage labour, plant, and subcontractor resources allocated to designated work packages Monitor productivity and operational performance, implementing corrective actions where required Support construction planning, sequencing, and temporary works coordination within live site environments Report progress, issues, and production updates to the General Superintendent or senior management Conduct daily toolbox talks and shift briefings with supervised teams Ensure compliance with project safety, environmental, and quality standards across all activities Conduct daily site inspections and checks to ensure works meet specification requirements Support implementation of RAMS and safe systems of work across supervised areas Assist with incident reporting, hazard assessments, and corrective actions Support development and coaching of site personnel and promote collaborative working Experience Proven experience working as a Supervisor, Foreman, or similar operational role within major infrastructure or heavy civil engineering projects Strong track record supervising labour, plant, and subcontractor teams on live construction sites Experience working within geotechnical, piling, ground improvement, or specialist foundation environments is highly advantageous Proven experience within a Tier 1 or specialist contractor environment Good operational understanding of heavy civil engineering and infrastructure delivery Knowledge of construction methodologies, sequencing, and site coordination practices Strong understanding of HSEQ requirements and safe working practices in live construction environments Ability to interpret technical drawings and construction specifications Valid CSCS card and relevant supervisory qualifications (e.g. SSSTS / SMSTS) advantageous Personal Attributes Strong supervisory and people management capability Proactive, solutions-focused approach to problem-solving Excellent communication and engagement skills Highly organised with strong attention to detail Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, high-pressure environments Collaborative mindset with a strong commitment to safety, quality, and performance Salary Starting from £300.00 per day (negotiable) To apply, please apply here or send your CV to (url removed) Our clients and their customers come from diverse backgrounds and so do we.
