Looking for a Clerk of Works role where you can make a real impact across a diverse estate?
This key position sits within West Yorkshire Police’s Estates and Business Services Directorate, providing expert M&E support across a diverse estate of around 100 operational and specialist buildings. We’re looking for someone who can work confidently both independently and as part of a busy team, managing a varied workload with ease.
As a key member of our technical team, you’ll deliver in‑house assurance, on‑site inspections, contractor oversight and compliance monitoring across projects, reactive and planned maintenance, and major installations. You’ll work closely with project managers, engineers and specialists to keep our estate safe, compliant and performing at its best.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled building services professional to play a vital role in maintaining and improving a complex live estate while contributing to impactful projects that directly support frontline policing. The role is based primarily in Central Wakefield; however, the ability to travel throughout West Yorkshire is essential.
Role and Responsibilities
You will play a key role in ensuring the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of all mechanical and electrical works across the estate. This includes overseeing contractor performance, carrying out on‑site inspections, contributing to surveys, validating compliance, and helping project teams resolve technical issues and improving asset data.
To succeed, you’ll need a strong working knowledge of industry regulations, standards, and Health and Safety requirements, along with the ability to tackle day‑to‑day issues and solve practical problems with confidence.
Key duties include:
Supervising mechanical and electrical elements of construction, refurbishment, repairs and maintenance works
Carrying out on‑site inspections, audits, validations and monitoring to ensure compliance with design, specification, legislation and industry best practice
Supporting the delivery of M&E engineering projects, including planned and reactive maintenance and minor works
Liaising with contractors, consultants and internal teams to resolve technical issues and maintain consistent standards
Monitoring performance of mechanical and electrical systems, including Building Management Systems (BMS), to ensure safety, reliability and effectiveness
Working to tender specifications, contract documentation and technical drawings
Identifying risks, escalating issues and ensuring corrective action is taken where required
Undertaking building condition and dilapidation surveys to support asset management and project planning
Witnessing testing and commissioning of new installations and providing technical guidance to colleagues

A qualified building services engineer with relevant mechanical or electrical experience
City & Guilds Level 3 / ONC Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or professional experience demonstrating equivalent competency
Strong knowledge of current industry regulations, standards and Health and Safety legislation
Experience managing and coordinating mechanical and electrical contractors
Ability to work to specifications, tender scopes and technical drawings
Experience validating contractor payment applications
Excellent technical communication skills
Ability to prioritise a varied workload and work both independently and as part of a team

Senior M&E Quantity Surveyor - Large main contractor Location : Darlington Salary : 75,000- 90,000 + 6,700 car allowance + package Project Value : 100m+ with c. 25-30m M&E value I'm currently supporting a major UK main contractor with the appointment of a Senior M&E Quantity Surveyor to take the lead on the M&E commercial delivery of a major 100m+ commercial development in Darlington. The project is a new-build commercial office for a government department, with the M&E package valued at approximately 25m to 30m. M&E installation is due to commence in early next year, making this a key appointment as the project moves into the delivery phase. This is a senior role with genuine responsibility. You'll take overall commercial responsibility for the M&E package across the project, working closely with the wider project team and leading a small commercial team comprising of 1-2 Assistant Quantity Surveyors and a Quantity Surveyor. The Role You'll have responsibility for the commercial management and delivery of the full M&E package, working alongside mechanical and electrical engineers, planners, design managers, project managers and the wider site team. Your responsibilities will include: Taking overall commercial responsibility for the M&E installation Leading and developing a small commercial team Managing the commercial performance of the M&E works from pre-installation through to completion. Working closely with M&E engineering and design teams to manage scope, change and commercial risk. Managing subcontractors and supply-chain relationships.
