About the Role
We are recruiting an experienced Separation Plant Operator (Mud Tech / Mud Man) to work on major shaft sinking and tunnelling projects across the North West UK. This is a long-term opportunity on a high-profile infrastructure project, supporting critical slurry and separation operations.
Key Responsibilities
Operate and maintain the separation plant for slurry/tunnelling operations
Monitor and control slurry systems, including density, viscosity, and flow rates
Ensure efficient removal and processing of spoil from tunnelling activities
Conduct routine checks, maintenance, and troubleshooting of plant equipment
Work closely with tunnelling teams, engineers, and supervisors to optimise performance
Maintain accurate records of plant performance and material outputs
Ensure compliance with environmental and site safety regulations
Support safe working practices in confined and safety-critical environments
Essential Requirements
Proven experience as a Mud Tech / Mud Man or Separation Plant Operator
Experience working on shaft sinking and/or tunnelling projects
Strong understanding of slurry systems and separation plant operations
Confined Spaces certification (Medium/High Risk) - essential
Valid medical certificate (safety-critical) - essential
Good problem-solving skills and ability to respond to plant issues quickly
Ability to work shifts, including nights and weekends if required
Desirable
Mechanical or process plant background
CSCS card
First Aid certification
Experience on large-scale civil engineering or tunnelling projects
