Setting Out Engineer Specialist Contractor Site Surveys and Cut & Fill Freelance: 2-3 weeks Rate: £300 per day CIS Location: Bicester We are currently searching for a Setting Out Engineer for a fast-paced cut & fill package in Bicester. You will be working for a subcontractor who specialises in these packages, working alongside the principal contractor on the scheme. The Role: Carrying out topographical and pre-earthworks surveys, establishing existing ground levels and site constraints Setting out cut and fill operations, including formation levels, profiles, batter lines and haul roads in line with design models Establishing and maintaining site control, including GPS control points, datums and gridlines Using GPS, total station and machine control systems to guide earthworks operations and ensure accuracy Monitoring cut & fill progress, carrying out regular surveys to track volumes, levels and compliance with design tolerances Producing volume calculations and reports, comparing planned vs actual earthworks quantities Checking formation levels and compaction layers, ensuring works meet specification and are ready for subsequent construction stages Supporting QA processes, including survey records, as-built data and verification of completed works Liaising with site teams and plant operators, providing clear setting out information and resolving technical issues Identifying discrepancies between design and site conditions, escalating issues and proposing practical solutions Experience Required: 5 + years experience working as a Setting Out/Site Engineer in the Construction/Civil Engineering sector.
