LV Authorised Person (AP) Electrical (Subcontractor Oversight)
Location: Reading (University Project)
Salary: £65,000 £75,000 + package

Why This Role?

Take ownership of LV electrical assurance on a major university project. This is a unique AP role focused on managing and overseeing subcontractors rather than carrying out testing yourself. You ll play a critical role in ensuring compliance, safety, and quality across all LV installations acting as the technical authority on-site and safeguarding standards in a high-profile live environment.

What You ll Do
  • Oversee and manage subcontractor testing teams on LV installations
  • Act as Authorised Person, issuing permits and managing isolations (LOTO procedures)
  • Witness testing and commissioning activities, ensuring compliance with standards
  • Review and verify all test results, escalating issues outside acceptable parameters
  • Manage and maintain project documentation, including test records and electronic folders
  • Coordinate fixed wiring, earthing, and modular wiring testing activities
  • Inspect installations and switchgear for compliance with BS7671 and project requirements
  • Manage project schematics, gateway trackers, and handover documentation
  • Ensure correct protective device settings and verify torque levels to manufacturer standards
  • Issue inspection reports, snag lists, and non-compliance notices
  • Liaise with project teams to ensure timely close-out of defects and issues
  • Support client witnessing and contribute to final certification (e.g. NICEIC)
  • Coordinate requests for power, isolations, and associated documentation
  • Maintain security and control of areas under your responsibility
  • Work flexibly, including out-of-hours where required to meet project deadlines
What We re Looking For
  • Proven experience in LV electrical testing, commissioning, or AP roles
  • Strong knowledge of BS7671, GN3, and electrical safety procedures (including LOTO)
  • Experience managing subcontractors and overseeing testing activities
  • Understanding of PME procedures and electrical compliance standards
  • Ability to review technical documentation, test results, and schematics accurately
  • Confident coordinating with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation and reporting skills
