Job Description

A client within the Public Sector based in Greater Manchester is currently recruiting for a Building Control Officer to join their Building Control team within the Public Protection division as soon as possible. The client is offering a full-time, temporary position on an ongoing basis, with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority building control environment.

The Role
Key purpose of the role is to support the delivery of the Building Control function across the borough, ensuring that building work and submitted plans comply with Building Regulations and associated legislation.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Processing building regulation applications and examining plans to ensure compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation.
  • Undertaking site inspections of building work and providing professional advice to applicants, contractors and stakeholders.
  • Investigating reports of dangerous structures and taking appropriate action to ensure public safety.
  • Providing technical advice on building control matters including pre-application enquiries and regulatory compliance.
  • Liaising with internal council services, developers, professional agents and emergency services regarding building control matters.
  • Contributing to service objectives, performance targets and maintaining accurate digital and manual records.
The Candidate
To be considered for this role you will require:
  • A Degree or equivalent qualification in a construction-related discipline.
  • Experience working within a Building Control service, ideally within a Local Authority.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Building Regulations and related legislation.
The below skills would be beneficial for the role:
  • Membership of or working towards RICS, ABE, CIOB or equivalent professional body.
  • Experience interpreting construction plans and advising applicants on regulatory matters.
  • Experience carrying out site inspections and producing clear technical reports.
The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering between 33- 38 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. 26- 30 per hour PAYE), depending on experience and grade.
