Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Building Services

Your new roleThis is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a growing engineering team in Glasgow. You will play a key role in delivering mechanical designs, technical support, and engineering solutions across a wide variety of projects, from full-scale refurbishments to highly technical, fast-paced fit-out environments. The role is predominantly office-based with occasional site visits as required.

Main Responsibilities:

• Producing detailed mechanical building services designs across HVAC, hot & cold water, public health, and associated systems.
• Carrying out load calculations, sizing, and equipment selection using industry-standard software and internal design tools.
• Preparing technical drawings, schematics, and layout information in collaboration with in-house design teams.
• Liaising with project managers, site teams, subcontractors, and clients to ensure seamless delivery of design intent.
• Conducting site surveys to assess existing installations, identify constraints, and support accurate design development.
• Reviewing and interpreting project specifications, client briefs, and regulatory requirements.
• Supporting tender submissions with technical input and mechanical design information where required.
• Ensuring design compliance with building regulations, industry standards, and best-practice guidelines.
• Providing engineering support throughout the project lifecycle, including addressing queries during installation stages.

What you'll need to succeed

• Proven experience in mechanical building services engineering within consultancy, contractor, or design & build environments.
• Strong understanding of HVAC, public health systems, and mechanical services design principles.
• Proficiency with design software (e.g., Hevacomp, IES, AutoCAD or similar).
• Excellent technical knowledge, with the ability to produce accurate calculations, specifications, and design documents.
• Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary project team.
• Full right to work in the UK.
