If you are an Estimator from a rail, civils or construction background looking for a new and exciting opportunity in a thriving billion-pound organisation with a healthy pipeline of projects coupled with an outstanding tender success ratio, then this will be for you!
The Role
The variety in this role is endless! Working mainly on long term framework agreements that can have anywhere up to 60 live jobs across the Southern part of the UK running concurrently.
The works mainly consist of building repair works, platform resurfacings, signal box refurbishments, canopy repairs and Mechanical and Electrical jobs including lighting.
This role will be on a high volume, low value framework which will require you to actively overcome challenges. As the work is high volume there will be an expectation to complete assigned tasks competently, but at speed.
The work is largely civil engineering including grit lasting, bridges and platform refurbishments and some building works. The building element is likely to include things such as level crossing repairs as well as other minor works.
You will need to take instruction from the commercial team and their assistants and create accurate cost value reports for the senior commercial team and the end client.

Monitor potential incoming enquiries
Build relationships with Architects, Quantity Surveyors and Competitors
Maintain up-to-date market knowledge of labour, plant, materials and sub-contractors
Prepare & send out sub-contract & material enquiries using conquest enquiry system
Where required produce accurate take-off using Conquest
Manage, as directed, enquiries for labour, plant, materials and sub-contractors
Price bills/schedules analytically and produce quote comparisons using conquest estimating software
Complete tender pricing for adjudication by the tender committee, including reporting on any risks or onerous conditions, providing a winning edge
Liaise with planner to assess programme & preliminaries
Conducting feasibility studies and writing procurement reports
Applying Value Management techniques at the outset of a project.
On secured projects prepare information for handover to the contract team
Developing the companies estimating library
Check tender documentation
Measure tender against Decision Analysis
Inform Tender Committee on Contract Conditions
Essentials
Must have worked as a build estimator in a previous role
Must have some estimating software in a previous role
Excel Skills
Hardworking and driven personality
Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise own workload
Excellent attention to detail

Job Summary:
• Advise Preconstruction Director of any business opportunities or improvements/innovation for the Company
• Review the status of workload, regional requirements, etc with your team at regular departmental meetings
Pre tender
• Manage the development of sound, robust and long term relationships with Clients and Design Teams in line with the general company strategy
• Assist/Manage the production of tender documents
• Attend pre-tender interviews where required
• Provide information to the submissions department as may be requested
Estimating
• Prepare and lead the compilation of tenders
• Give instruction to your tender team, and any junior members assigned to your department or team
• Advise the Preconstruction Director of any tendering difficulties that you or your team are experiencing
• Prepare material in the agreed format for presentation
• Develop client and consultant relations, including the management of their expectations
• Evaluate risk and prepare a register in conjunction with others
• Comply with estimating processes to ensure it complies with current business processes
• Work in conjunction with administration staff in preparation of the estimate
• Obtain feedback on both successful and unsuccessful tenders
• Provide input to the handover process from estimating to contract
• Input into the review of supply chain members
• Input into innovation (”finding the edge”)
• Attend meetings with Client, Designers, Quantity Surveyor’s, etc where necessary
• Carry out negotiations with Clients and/or their representatives within the parameters set out by the management of the Company
Qualifications:
• Appropriate academic and construction qualifications
Experience:

Mechanically biased M&E Quantity Surveyor is sought to work on an £18 million newbuild Hospital in London.
An established M&E Building Services Contractor are looking for a commercially aware and confident client facing individual to undertake the role of Senior Estimator/Quantity Surveyor. The Quantity Surveyor function is the main bias but we are looking for someone to oversee and implement instructions from the client and work closely with the project director.
The Company is a Mechanical & Electrical Building Services industry with an excellent reputation of providing outstanding quality. The project involves the installation of HVAC, Power and Heating Systems on a New Build Hospital in London.
About the Role
* Follow and implement instructions from the client and main contractor
* Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and plans
* Overseeing of first and second fix mechanical installations.
* Experience in costing and pricing Mechanical Installations and refurbishment (In particular, HVAC)
* Lead the development of successful commercial and financial controls
* Manage and pro-actively support all commercial and surveying activities
